Capability Acceleration Program (CAP)
Flextronics’ belief that ‘our people make the difference’ has spurred the company to architect an extensive Capability Acceleration Program (CAP) to accelerate the capabilities of high-potential employees and provide a pipeline of highly skilled technical professionals, managers and subject matter experts in key disciplines. Support our vision of creating a company of Limitless Scale, built on a system of Repeatable Execution. CAP is an integral part of our long-term strategy to promote Flextronics as an employer of choice. It addresses critical manufacturing as well functional disciplines within the organization and seeks to form strategic partnerships with external universities through its Tech@Campus program.
CAP – Manufacturing and Functional Disciplines
The CAP initiative currently addresses two critical core manufacturing disciplines–Surface Mount Technology and Plastics–and three critical functional disciplines that support manufacturing–Supply Chain Management, Project Management, and Quality. The program aims to develop subject matter experts in these technical/functional areas that are key to the organization achieving its business goals.
People managers nominate their team members to the CAP programs, and they are then selected on the basis of their individual performance track record, as well as technical and behavioral assessments. The CAP initiative provides holistic and intensive learning programs through a blended learning approach that combines instructor led, on-the-job, and self paced learning methodologies.
The programs are designed by Flextronics’ subject matter experts, who are industry thought leaders in their respective disciplines, in collaboration with premier educational institutions and global learning organizations. The CAP architecture consist of three development levels – Basic, Advanced, and Expert. These levels will enable accelerated career growth of the participants through phased development, access to global opportunities, stretch assignments and challenging projects in order to develop our future managers and subject matter experts in 3 to 5 years. The program will ensure the capability acceleration of the participants, subject to exemplary job performance and successful completion of the program.
Tech@Campus Program
Tech@Campus is a program aimed at collaborating with universities to develop technological curricula in disciplines relevant to the high-tech electronics manufacturing industry and creating industry-academia relationships resulting in developing emerging talent.
The program is uniquely designed to keep students updated with state-of-the-art technologies through interactive channels such as elective disciplines, workshops, seminars, industry visits, case studies, projects, and internship programs.
Tech@Campus has begun by signing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with three universities in Asia spread across three countries that are of strategic importance to Flextronics:
- Guagdong University of Technology, Guangzhou, China
- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johar Baru, Malaysia
- Annu University, Chennai, India
Flextronics has collaborated with these three universities to develop an academic course in Surface Mount Technology (SMT), which will be offered as an elective course to engineering students, who after successfully completing it will be better prepared to pursue careers in the high-tech electronics manufacturing industry. We hope to increase the coverage of the Tech@Campus program to include more universities in Asia and to add universities in the Americas this year. We also hope to collaborate in designing an academic course in one more discipline in the coming year.
